Gollnest & Kiesel: Fantasy and Creativity
Gollnest & Kiesel KG is one of Europe's leading manufacturers of wooden toys and the largest toy company in northern Germany. The brands HEIMESS (wooden baby toys, made in Germany), goki, HOLZTIGER, ’cause, and ANKER Stone Building Sets are well known in the toy and gift trade. The company was founded 30 years ago by the two owners, the HEIMESS brand has existed for over 50 years, and ANKER Steinbaukasten GmbH in Rudolstadt dates back 130 years. More than 2,300 different products form one of the most varied ranges to be found anywhere in the toy industry.
Fantasy and creativity
The traditional toys are more suitable than any others when it comes to developing and fostering children's creativity and fantasy. These two characteristics are not foreign to the company's owners and founders. Together with over 400 employees they develop more than 200 new toys every year. A new toy is created in the factory every day. This makes Gollnest & Kiesel one of the most innovative toy companies in Europe.
Top marks from "markt intern"
The company's excellent sales and market performance over recent years is not typical of the industry. The northern Germans also achieved sales growth of 8.5 percent and further improved their market position in 2011. About half of the turnover was generated in Germany. However, the company also exports its toys to countries all over Europe. Toys from Gollnest & Kiesel are particularly popular in France and Scandinavia. Exports to the USA, Japan and South Korea also increased further. Toys "made in Germany" continue to enjoy a good reputation in these countries. The situation in the toy industry remains unchanged with a few large manufacturers such as Mattel or Hasbro and many small or medium-sized producers, especially in Germany, the heartland of toys. Unlike many other industries, the trade is also still broken down into many small parts. However, there has also been greater concentration in the toy sector over recent years. This concentration is detrimental to the diversity of the toys, which was previously a signature feature of the industry. Gollnest & Kiesel will continue to give consideration to the individual development of children and to support the (specialised) retail trade by providing a highly varied range in the future. In a major survey, the readers of the industry information service "markt intern" awarded top marks to the orientation of the company.
